Springfield School Board to vote on recommendation for new high school
The Springfield School Board has announced its intention to decide on the future of the high school before the end of this academic year. A new school at Saxer Avenue and Rolling Road is one of four options considered in the master plan analysis. Each option has been part of discussions in six town hall meetings since April. The range for total project costs are: $90-$110 million for maintenance of the existing building; $121-$148 million for renovation of the existing building; $123-$150 million for a new building at Leamy Avenue and Rolling Road; and $118-$144 million at Saxer. These costs cover construction and every associated expense. All materials presented to the public are on the district’s website under the “SHS Master Plan” tab. The documents include financial, logistical, philosophical and physical aspects of all options, as well as questions and answers posed by the public during town hall sessions.
